Program Outcome 3:Explain, use, maintain, and develop systems to organize and retrieve recorded knowledge.
LI 804 Playing Tag: an exploration of folksonomy in comparison to LCSH MLS Outcomes: 3A, 3B, 3C MLS Values: PV1, PV2 The purpose of LI804, Organization of Information, is to introduce the individual, social, and institutional perspectives of organizing information. I studied multiple models of organization used in libraries both currently and historically, including the systems of Dewey, Bliss, and Ranganathan. This paper details an attempt to correlate popular user-created tags in LibraryThing to Library of Congress Subject Headings as a way to explore the potential of folksonomic tagging as a tool for information organization. I used research and analytical skills to devise a method for comparing tags to LCSH terms to explain how these systems are used to make sense of collections of information. Abbas, June.
