LI801 Interview with Matthew Reynolds

MLS Outcomes: 1A, 1B, 1E, 1J, 5A
MLS Values: PV1, PV4

The purpose of LI801, Foundations of Library and Information Science, is to introduce the philosophical and ethical underpinnings of the profession of librarianship. I studied information-seeking behavior as detailed by Carol Kuhlthau, as well as the paradigm shift model of Thomas Kuhn. This interview with Matthew Reynolds of the library at East Carolina University gave me my first opportunity to consider questions of professional philosophy and service, to orient these theoretical underpinnings within the context of the daily life of a working librarian, and to begin to integrate my own personal values with core tenets of the library and information management profession.
